RUSSELL MINERAL EQUIPMENT (RME) exists to enable our Customers to eliminate fatal risk and visibly, defensibly, and sustainably improve the performance of their mineral concentrators through fast, reliable safe mill relining. These concentrators are responsible for producing the minerals, like copper, needed for the energy transition. For 40 years, RME has dedicated itself to this noble purpose.

RME was founded on the belief that we can make things better. With deep and proud local roots in Toowoomba, Queensland, we have grown to operate in 64 countries, with 12 international Sales and Service Centres, employing more than 450 dedicated and skilled people worldwide. CURRENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

There is now an exciting opportunity for a Discrete Event Simulation Engineer (DES) to join the Applications Engineering Team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The DES Specialist is primarily responsible for using RME’s in-house tools for discrete event simulation, known as Mill Reline Director (MRD), to predict and model technical and economic benefits of mine improvements from our machines. You will produce data analysis and reports that will assist our strategic marketing, product management and R&D teams provide justification for the implementation of new technologies and processes.

In this role, you will also be involved in programming and developing simulation models, ensuring they are accurate and efficient. Your expertise in data analysis will be crucial in interpreting simulation results and providing actionable insights. Additionally, you will be expected to interact with customers to understand their specific needs and tailor simulations to meet those requirements.

You may from time to time, as part of this role, travel to remote mines as a representative of RME to ensure the accurate collection of data. You will need to be able to build and maintain effective working relationships within the Applications Engineering team, RME, and with our customers. Your ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively will be essential in fostering strong customer relationships and ensuring their satisfaction with our solutions.

There is now an exciting opportunity for a Yardsperson to join our Blast and Paint team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Yardsperson will ensure the smooth flow of parts, machinery, and equipment through our yard. This role will be crucial for maintaining efficiency in the processes of preparing parts and equipment for blast and paint. The Yardsperson will assist the spray painter with tasks such as preparation, cleaning, taping and touch up painting to ensure the timely delivery of parts in full (DIFOT).

Due to the growth in our Fabrication Department, there is now an opportunity to join RME as a Boilermaker on a permanent, full-time basis. 

Our Boilermakers are based in Toowoomba and have access to fantastic facilities. 

This position is a permanent night shift role, with a 4-day work week roster.

This position is not a FIFO role and does not require you to travel to mine sites. 

The Boilermaker role at RME is heavily safety focused, producing exceptional work while ensuring the safety of yourself and others is our priority. 

This role is a key part of the manufacturing journey of RME’s innovative Mill Relining equipment.  

Our Fabrication Team have wealth of experience in their Trades and are willing to continue learning and build their skill. 

What are we looking for?

RME is looking for experienced Boilermakers who will use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the efficient fabrication of RME parts and equipment. 

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade
  • A positive attitude and a passion for teamwork
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and good judgement
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience in flat plate fabrication, with the ability and desire to produce the highest-quality fabrications to AS1554 parts 1 and 4
  • Experience with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)

The ideal candidate may also possess:

  • Post-trade certified in AS1796 certificates 7, 8G and 9
  • Experience with Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) or Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

There is now an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineered to Order (ETO) Engineering team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Our ETO Engineering team ensures RME’s engineering outputs are fit for consumption for our Customers. The ETO team generates designs enabling the manufacturing and service of RME’s product offerings. The Mechanical Engineer role will complete assigned design tasks with high levels of quality and efficiency and will be required to plan and perform professional engineering work with minimal detailed supervision.  

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the layout, design, and analysis of high-quality mining equipment. This role will create designs that prioritise safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost, whilst ensuring the highest of standards in every task. Additionally, this role will contribute to improvement projects and the management of problem reports, change requests, and notice for assigned projects. The Mechanical Engineer functions within a team to effectively support customers and meet RME’s goals and objectives.

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree 
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in an engineering design, manufacturing, or service support environment, utilising enterprise level 3D CAD modelling package and demonstrated experience in detailed Finite Element Analysis
  • Demonstrable problem solving skills and the application of these within an engineering design team
  • Ability to work under minimal close supervision 

The ideal candidate may also possess:

  • RPEQ certification or actively on a pathway to achieving certification
  • Lateral thinking skills, with the ability to approach problems in a creative manner
  • Demonstrable experience applying engineering risk management practices
  • Considerable originality and ingenuity in detailed mechanical and hydraulic designs
